"You can't go!" You yelled at him.
"(name), I have to." Your best friend Berwald said.
"No you don't. You have to stay here." You pleaded with him.
He looked at you with a faint smile on his face.
"I'll be fine. And I'll be back." He said holding you in his arms as you cried.
"You better come back." You said into the crook of his neck.
Berwald didn't do anything but hold you tighter in his arms.

He was going off the next morning. First some training then off to war for who knows how long. He had been your best friend for who knows how long, and recently you've developed feelings for him but now, now he was off to fight with the rest of many men.

"Bye (name)." He said to you as he got onto the train.
"Bye Ber." You said begining to wipe your watering eyes.
He held your face and wiped away your tears for you and smiled down at you.
"No more tears. I'll always be with you." He said giving you a friendly kiss on the forehead.
"Ber, I have to tell you something." You said.
"Soldiers aboard!" A loud commanding voice yelled out.
"I have to go." He said sadly looking at you.
"Write to me, as much as you can. And come back soon. I'll miss you everyday until your back." You said giving him one last hug.
"I will. And you'll write back and I'll miss you too." He said and then the two of you stepped away and he stepped into the train that would take him away from you for who knows how long.
You waved at him tears spilling down shamelessly down your face as he waved back and the train moved forward with Berwald.

It's been four months since Berwald left. You kept thinking that you should have told him how you felt before he left, but you were going to tell him when he got back. He just got out of training and the letters were coming less and less. Today you got one and you couldn't help but be happy.

Dear (name),
I miss you so much. My bunk mates are something. There's Mathias who won't shut up, Lukas who keeps Mathias in line, and a small guy named Tino. You wouldn't think Tino would be a fighter but give him a gun and he never misses.
Anyway, I've missed you a lot. I miss everything really. The thoughts of you and home are what keep me going in this hell.

You smiled at the last line. You kept him going!

~With Berwald~

The war was hectic, like any other war would be I guess. I kept shooting as much as I could and only stopped when I had to.
My only thoughts going to (name).

All of a sudden there was silence. We all looked at each other and then at General Kirkland.
"Everyone move out! back to our base!" He yelled out as he got a message on his comm unit.
We all walked back solemnly. I hope this means I can go home soon, back to (name).
"Hey Ber! You look happy! Thinking about that girl from the station?" Mathias asked as we got back to our current base.
I looked at him wondering how he knew about (name).
"I was on the train before you remember? I saw you with her. She your girlfriend?" Mathias asks.
"Berwald, why didn't you tell us you had a girlfriend?" Tino asks stepping into our cramped room with Lukas.
"She isn't my girlfriend." I said sadly, wishing she was.
"She sure looked like it! Lukas you were on the train with me when we saw Ber, that girl with him definitely looked like his girlfriend huh?" Mathias asked/
"...A bit." Lukas said face emotionless as always, "But stay out of other people's business."
"Don't worry Berwald, you'll get back to her soon." Tino said, and I all I did was grunt in response.

You were cleaning your house when you heard it on the radio.

"Earlier today the warring nations have agreed to a cease-fire and are currently working out a treaty, but they all have agreed to send their troops back home." The reporter stated and your heart soared! Berwald was coming home!

You woke up in the middle of the night to knock on your door. You walked up yawning with your robe wrapped around you (a gift from Berwald) and looked out the small window to look at who it was.
You couldn't believe your eyes. You opened your the door hurriedly and hugged him. Berwald was back!
"(name), I have something to tell you." He said hugging you back.
"I do to." You said.
"(name)...I love you." He said shyly.
You looked up to his dark blue eyes and smiled widely and kissed him.
"I love you too." You said when the two of you pulled away.
Part of my 'Off to War' series
I don't really like the ending but eh~
I wasn't really sure how to end this, I was going to have him be injured and say it to you with his last breath, but I'm not really in the mood to write something sad. But that will happen in another one~ I'm thinking old fashion 40's America for the next one. I'm a sucker for that!

Anyways tell me what you think! Comments and favorites are appreciated! Love you guys!~

You better beleive Tino never misses.

95% of Finns during the war were snipers. My great-great-grandpa was one of them. He could shoot a man's head off...

My father was a sniper.
Are you a good shot too?
I think it runs in the blood ^w^
SailorSun1998 Featured By Owner Feb 18, 2014  Student Writer
Well sort of. I'm not legally old enough to own a gun but I'm pretty good with a bow. And also toy guns like the Nerf guns.
